Battersea Power Station Development Company

Delivering the largest planning application ever secured in London

Battersea Power Station is a decommissioned power station located in south-west London which has been empty since 1983. In 2012, the new owners of the site began an ambitious plan to develop Battersea Power Station and revitalise this area of south-west London with 3,444 residential units, 88,000sqm retail floorspace, 150,000sqm office space, a new High Street and a new London Underground station.

Steer supported the new owners of the site to obtain the initial Outline Planning Permission in 2012. We then helped them to prepare detailed planning applications for Phases 1, 2 and 3 of the scheme.

We have also prepared transport strategies which are to be adopted for the entire Power Station site, including site-wide Travel Plan, Car Parking and Servicing Strategies to help secure a first-class development that will operate functionally, efficiently and with increasing sustainability.

Our work involved integrating transport facilities to ensure ease of access to and from the site as well as within the site itself. A key component to the site-wide design is providing for the effective and safe movement of pedestrians within the site boundary. As part of our commission we prepared a dynamic pedestrian model for the entire site which allowed the emerging design to be considered in the context of creating a high-quality pedestrian environment.

Working closely with the scheme architects we have been able to tailor detailed elements of the scheme to ensure that the design sufficiently accommodates pedestrian requirements, whether they be residents, employees or visitors to the site.
