Our commitment to Net Zero

Steer is committed to successfully operating as a Net Zero Carbon company by 2025.

In 2022, Steer became Carbon Neutral. We will be net zero carbon by 2025 and near zero carbon by 2030 through less than 50% offsetting, and only with offsetting that is local to our operations and consistent with our social values.

Our aim is to embody decarbonisation and wider sustainable development goals in all aspects of our work, including our strategies, planning, and day-to-day activities.

We are committed to using our expertise to help our clients and the wider society transition to a sustainable, low-carbon future. This means working alongside our clients and partners, advising and guiding them with expertise, knowledge, and data to address the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities of decarbonisation across all of our services, sectors, and geographies.

Our Net Zero Carbon by 2025 commitment was developed by our employees, for our employees. They work in partnership with our clients on infrastructure, places, people, and transport, taking us all towards a Net Zero Carbon future.

Our Carbon Reduction Plan

Our Carbon Reduction Plan conforms to the requirements of Procurement Policy Note PPN06/21 and helps us and our clients meet our sustainability goals.
You can find it on our Policies page.

Steer is committed to using our expertise to help our clients transition to a sustainable, low carbon future. This means working alongside our clients and partners, advising and guiding with expertise, knowledge and data, to address the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities of decarbonisation across all of our services, sectors and geographies.

We have a long history of successfully supporting our clients in reducing the negative impacts of travel in their towns, cities and communities on their local environments. We are at the forefront of the environmental debate, working with our clients to formulate no-nonsense solutions to better understand impacts, raise awareness and influence behaviours.

Our global teams work closely with clients to plan, implement and deliver sustainable futures from advising on greener solutions for major infrastructure projects to developing local active travel initiatives. We are committed to helping our clients improve infrastructure, cities and transport and to continue playing our part in the fight against climate change.

In line with our values, we take our responsibility to the environment seriously and as such, our approach to managing our environmental impact covers four core principles:

  • To proactively manage and minimise our environmental impacts.
  • To comply with local environmental legal requirements.
  • To encourage participation of positive environmental practices.
  • To continually monitor and improve our environmental performance.

Our Actions are delivered through a suite of Local Environmental Actions Plans (LEAPs) which look to create a global impact through targeted and office-specific local action planning. These actions include:

  • Locating our offices in central locations, that are well served by public transport.
  • No provision of car parking at our offices.
  • Providing employees access to bike purchase schemes where available.
  • A carbon levy on our business travel
  • Travel to meetings on foot, by cycle, public transport or car club car to reduce transport impact.
  • Deployment of local staff to projects to minimise the need to travel.
  • Participating in the local circular economy, regularly donating office furniture, and cared for equipment to local schools’ charities and social enterprises.
  • Continuous improvement of the environmental standards of our offices, including reduced emissions and improved recycling, each lease renewal
