James Christiansen

James is a Principal Consultant at Steer and leads design across the Sports & Major Events team. With over 20 years of experience, he specialises in transport and operational design for major events and large-scale developments, translating complex requirements into practical, deliverable solutions.

He has played a leading role in some of the UK’s most high-profile events, including the London 2012 Olympic Games, UEFA EURO 2020 at Wembley, the UEFA Champions League Finals, the Rugby World Cup, and The Open. His expertise focuses on the design of temporary event overlays, including Park & Ride sites, bus and coach operations, spectator flow and queue management, and temporary traffic management schemes integrated with security requirements.

James combines technical design capability with hands-on operational experience, supporting events from early concept through to live delivery. He has developed detailed designs for transport hubs, load zones, and access arrangements in constrained, high-demand environments, ensuring safe and efficient movement of spectators and services.

Alongside his events work, James advises on transport design for major developments, working closely with architects and design teams through all project stages. His expertise includes vehicle access, servicing, and waste strategies, ensuring developments are functional, compliant, and operationally effective.
