Approval granted for Plymouth Argyle Football Club’s Youth Academy Facility in Plymouth

We're thrilled to announce that the planning applications for the redevelopment of the Brickfields Sports Centre and Stoke Damerel Community College in Plymouth have received resolution to grant approval.

The proposed redevelopment includes state-of-the-art training facilities for the Plymouth Argyle Football Club’s Youth Academy, featuring teaching and changing facilities, four pitches, and a spectator stand. Additionally, the project ensures continued access and parking facilities for other site users, including the Plymouth Albion Rugby Football Club and the local community leisure center.

This project was no small feat, given the complexity of accommodating a high volume of car users, including academy players from across Devon and Cornwall, as well as rugby away-team spectators.

Our team worked closely with the client, site users, Plymouth City Council, and local car park owners to develop a robust car park management strategy including new Electric Vehicle charging provision and a complementary suite of sustainable transport measures.

We're proud that our efforts received commendation from Plymouth City Council's highway officer, who was satisfied with our proposal after rigorous scrutiny and grateful for the positive feedback from Ward William Associates, the project manager, highlighting the value our expertise brought to the project.

“A significant amount of my work to date on subjects such as traffic, highways, tracking etc. has been led through teams associated with civil engineers and architects. Steers specialism really stood out and the depth of knowledge, especially from a regulatory point of view, added significant value to the project. Additionally, the Steer team were very strong when it came to communications with key stakeholders, again something often missing from other similar consultants who focused purely on the technical. I look forward to working with them again on future projects and would very much recommend to my clients.”

We are now eager to commence work on post application support which includes discharging planning conditions, such as travel planning and necessary S278 works/Traffic Regulations Orders.

Congratulations to everyone involved in making this redevelopment a reality!
