Cycling Action Plan for Scotland

Transport consultancy Steer Davies Gleave has been commissioned by Cycling Scotland to undertake extensive stakeholder consultation to understand the barriers to cycling in Scotland and importantly how best to overcome them.

This work, which will form part of the Cycling Action Plan for Scotland (CAPS), will provide a long-term focus and direction for the allocation of resources aimed at encouraging more people to cycle more often. Central to this will be identifying the most effective way of allocating resources across infrastructure, training, facilities and marketing and promotion.

Steer Davies Gleave's project manager, Adam Priestley said 'for many people in Scotland, cycling is rarely considered a viable mode of transport - so developing an understanding of both cyclists' needs and non-cyclists' perceptions is a key part of this study.'

Extensive consultation is currently in progress to understand the views of those that don't cycle at present and the results will play a significant part in discussions at a stakeholder conference in the autumn.

An experienced team with expertise in consultation and an in-depth knowledge of modern cycling policy has been assembled from Steer Davies Gleave`s offices in Scotland and the rest of the UK.
