Southend United Football Club on the Move

Steer are delighted with the news that Southend Borough Council has recently consented to Southend United Football Club’s proposals to relocate to a new 21,000 seat stadium at Fossetts Farm. The proposals at Fossetts Farm also include up to 1,400 new homes, a new professional training ground, community sports facilities and a new hotel. In addition, the existing stadium at Roots Hall will be redeveloped to provide 500 homes.

Steer has been assisting SUFC for the past seven years with transport aspects of the proposals, including developing the matchday travel strategy in consultation with local public transport operators, assisting with the design of on-site parking and servicing facilities, preparing the comprehensive suite of documents to support both planning applications and assisting with negotiating the transport components of the S106 agreements. In addition, by promoting substantial, sustainable transport strategies at both locations, including the extensive provision of cycle parking and car clubs, Steer helped justify car parking provision at Fossetts Farm below the Council’s minimum standards, aiding project viability.

Steer are looking forward to supporting both projects through to implementation.
