Our targets

Following a re-baselining exercise in FY25, Steer has set a target of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, while maintaining carbon neutrality for any unavoidable residual emissions.

Our targets include

By 2035 ↓ 35% reduction in emissions

By 2050 ↓ 69% absolute reduction in emissions from a FY25 baseline

Our aim

Our aim is to embody decarbonisation and wider sustainable development goals in all aspects of our work, including our strategies, planning, and day-to-day activities.

We are committed to using our expertise to help our clients and the wider society transition to a sustainable, low-carbon future. This means working alongside our clients and partners, advising and guiding them with expertise, knowledge, and data to address the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities of decarbonisation across all of our services, sectors, and geographies.

Our guiding principles

Our net zero guiding principles ensure that our actions are science-aligned, proportionate and transparent, supporting meaningful and lasting emissions reductions while enabling a fair and just transition.

We are guided by the following principles:

  • Prioritising emissions reductions over offsets
  • Science-aligned, data-driven decision-making
  • A just and equitable transition
  • Transparency and independent verification

Our Climate Action Plan and LEAPs

Carbon reductions are delivered globally through a five-year Climate Action Plan and locally through Local Environmental Action Plans (LEAPs), supporting the delivery of global impact through targeted, office-specific action.

Our plans focus on:

  • Integrating low-carbon principles into how we deliver projects
  • Improving energy efficiency and transitioning to renewables
  • Managing business travel emissions responsibly
  • Reducing waste and supporting circular procurement
  • Enabling low-carbon commuting and flexible working
  • Integrating sustainability into procurement and risk management
  • Embedding a culture that supports net zero goals

Our Carbon Reduction Plan

Our Carbon Reduction Plan aligns with the requirements of Procurement Policy Note PPN 006 and sets out how we are reducing emissions across our operations and value chain.
